Breaking News: Unknown land grabbers take over Christ Embassy camp ground [Video]

The Authorities of Christ Embassy Church have condemned in totality, the recent brazen invasion of its land and properties by land grabbers, speculators and Criminal Trespassers  on its 522 Acres of land at Asese , Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The Church  Authorities state that  this is a direct fall out from the unfortunate statement of the present commissioner of police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, when he opined that the Certificates of Occupancy and Governors Consent obtained from OgunState Government by the Church in respect of the Church's 522 Acres is not a "proof " that the Church is the "Owner" of the land.

In meetings  between representatives of the Church and the land grabbers in the office of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police in Eleweran , Abeokuta, in  March and April 2021, the commissioner of police made the uncharitable comments which emboldened the landgrabbers the more, to continue with their uncharitable act.

As unfortunate as the statement is, this became the " Catalyst and elixir the landgrabbers and landspeculators needed to continue to perpetuate their Criminal Trespass on the land of the Church.

The Church authorities in its usual way of adhering strictly to due process, has decided to take the matter up with the Police Hierarchy in the coming days and weeks.

Holiday Bucket List: Fun Activities to Engage in

The holiday season that is upon us is one of the best times of the year to bond as a couple and take your relationship to a more profound height.

This holiday season, you can decide to spend your time together as a couple with one or more of these activities that could make up your festive bucket list.

Camping
In a bid to get closer, nature’s got you covered. There isn’t much to it as you might think. There’s always that stretch of nature where you can visit with your partner and enjoy the warm embrace of nature and all its goodness.

Volunteering
Giving back to the society can provide an indescribable source of fulfilment to an individual- the same works when you do it as a couple. At this time, you can attach yourself to a charity organisation and help them achieve the dream of putting smiles on people’s faces. No doubt, your empathy levels will skyrocket as a couple and the benefit for your relationship would go without saying.

Exercise
Exercise is packed with a plethora of health benefits, but many people struggle with the will to do it regularly. You have the upper hand, for two heads are better than one. Exercising together will bring you even closer together because it shows a commitment to grow healthier together.

Art Appreciation
Just like appreciating nature, appreciating art can have a lasting effect, especially since the latter is the celebration of the former. Going to art exhibitions together or simply visiting a museum can open up meaningful conversations for you both as you react to art.

Sports
In tune with exercising, you can take it a notch further by engaging in a light sport together. Playing volleyball, badminton, or going cycling together are effective ways to spend some quality time together.

Video Games
This might sound a bit cheesy since a lot of us believe that video games reside in ‘bachelorville’. False! Video games are a beneficial way to relax and release the right hormones that improve the mood and can act as antidepressants. Doing this together makes it even better as you try to trash each other in healthy competition.

Planning
Once the festivities blow over, we have the New Year to worry about. In couple style, you can plan ahead for the new year together to help start off with a blast. Try to make this as colloquial and fun as possible.

Make the best of this festive period to have a great experience with each other with these activities.  Sugarwedding

Africa: Rainstrom wrecks school, over 200 staff, student stranded

The dearth of learning spaces and other facilities in Government Secondary School, GSS, Wokkos, Pankshin local government area of Plateau State is worsened further as a rainstorm on Saturday destroyed classrooms and staff offices in the school.

An alumnus of the school, Amos Bitrus said the school was operating in a Primary School in the community but later moved to its current site in 1996 with community donated infrastructure but there are still facility gaps in the school.

Although the office of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs added two classrooms and a staff office about four years ago to address the infrastructure deficit, the intervention is not enough to address the existing problems.

To compound their woes, the roofs of two self-help Community buildings which were made with locally produced mud blocks, provided by the Parents Teachers Association, PTA, were blown off when the rainstorm struck.

A staff in the school, Mr. Yilduna Mantom said not less than 80 students were stranded on Monday when classes resumed even as students were squeezed in unaffected classrooms but the measure is unsustainable hence the call for urgent intervention by the government and other public-spirited persons and groups.

The disaster might affect students’ preparation for the final year examinations as well as breach the COVID-19 protocols.

The School’s Principal, Godwin Yilluk, said, “We have six buildings in the school, two are destroyed and the remaining four are being managed by both staff and students.
“We have 280 students, the situation is really difficult, I have written to the Area Office, the Area Director will take it up from there. I will go to the Education Secretary in the local government to let him know, we have WhatsApp platforms for Principals in the State and in the Area, I sent messages there too. We need urgent help.”

The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Elizabeth Wapmuk when contacted at the time of this report on Monday afternoon expressed shock saying she knew nothing about the incident

Wapmuk who acknowledged the infrastructure deficit in the school said, “Is that so? I am just hearing it for the first time, maybe because it happened on Saturday. Normally when something happens like that, the Principal is supposed to write to the Area Director, to the Zonal Director before it gets to our office in Jos.

“If he wrote today, it is yet to get to the Ministry, when it does, we will sit down to see what we can do. We don’t have the money kept so that immediately it happens, we will just rush, pick it up and go and start, you know government procedure, we don’t just rush to go and do it.

“There are other interventions the school supposed to do, they will know what to do. We have Area Directors, Zonal Directors, and the Principals; immediately something happens like this, they always come together, make a decision and when they come to the Ministry, we sit down and plan what to do. We ask them what is their recommendation, if there are other buildings there they move in, we don’t leave the students like that.

If there are other government schools nearby, we know what to do, once the issue comes to the Ministry, we will take a decision. That will not stop the students from writing their exams.” Vanguardngr

FA Cup: Nigerians react as Kanu mocks Ndidi, Iheanacho for displaying Nigeria flag

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Sunday, mocked Super Eagles stars, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, for displaying the Nigerian flag after Leicester City’s FA Cup final 1-0 victory against Chelsea on Saturday.

Iheanacho and Ndidi celebrated their win by displaying Nigerian flag for their first ever FA Cup title for Leicester City.

Reacting, DAILY POST reports that Kanu, on his Twitter handle, described their action as shameful.

Kanu wrote: ”Gerard Pique is a World Cup winner with over 103 caps for Spain. He never turned his back against Catalonia freedom.

“Severally, he has shown open support for Catalan freedom.

“But our Iheanacho and Ndidi with Nigeria flag? Shame! Difference between White man and his Black counterparts.”

Nigerians, however, took to social media to react to Kanu’s comments.
Some Nigerians expressed disappointment over Kanu’s comments, while others urged the IPOB leader to leave the footballers alone.

Below are some comments gathered by DAILY POST:

@CountryDan93, “@MaziNnamdiKanu Do what you must do and leave these footballers out of it. If you did follow them you did see that they sing, communicate and promote the Igbo culture. Southern and some parts of Northern Nigeria supported them yesterday. They were only showing appreciation. Leave them out! ”

@KabiruJambil, “@MaziNnamdiKanu A pure black man do racisms to his black counterparts, shame on you.”

@RuthMadaki1, “@MaziNnamdiKanu can they shine in peace please? Biafra no join them play match. They can choose to celebrate how they want to after all it was their personal victory. May God give them even greater career success.”

@Striving4Haqq, “@MaziNnamdiKanu you are a fool, how many times will they tell you that this your dream can’t be actualized, it’s suicidal, Catalonia is a territory before Colonization and nothing like Biafra in history, Igbo nation never existed as a territory before Colonial era.”

@goonergerian, “@MaziNnamdiKanu Baba rest joor..Both senior man Kelechi and Ndidi are members of the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s squad. The state of Biafra is not sovereign, recognised or known. As for Catalonia, they have their own flag as a state, Pique raising that flag doesn’t mean he supports secession.”

@AlaribeEmeka, “@MaziNnamdiKanu not all athletes join sports with politics, after all many Africans are representing foreign teams, and flying their flags, that doesn’t mean their heart is there. Remember Dele Alli, Saka, etc play for England, and would surely fly the English flag than the green and white.”

@DAfirstQUEEN, “@MaziNnamdiKanu perhaps they don’t like Biafran concept, not everyone does and I think u should respect that too. That is the difference between white man and his black counterparts.”

@Stanley24823919, “@MaziNnamdiKanu yesterday marks the beginning of the end of my support to these Igbo (Ndidi and Iheanacho) of Leicester City Football Club, for displaying a terrorist Nigeria flag of Nigeria disappointed in you.” Dailypost

Over 745,000 Deaths Linked To Long Working Hours - WHO, ILO

No fewer than 745,000 deaths from stroke and ischemic heart disease as a result of long working hours were recorded in 2016.

Latest estimates by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) showed that the death figure represented an increase of 29 per cent since 2000.

These estimates were contained in a study titled “Global, regional, and national burdens of ischemic heart disease and stroke attributable to exposure to long working hours for 194 countries, 2000–2016: A systematic analysis from the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury.”
The study comes as the COVID-19 pandemic shines a spotlight on managing working hours, and accelerating developments that could feed the trend towards increased working time.

‘No Job Is Worth The Risk’

WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, believes the pandemic has significantly changed the way many people work, noting that teleworking has become the norm in many industries, often blurring the boundaries between home and work.

He said, “Many businesses have been forced to scale back or shut down operations to save money, and people who are still on the payroll end up working longer hours.
“No job is worth the risk of stroke or heart disease. Governments, employers and workers need to work together to agree on limits to protect the health of workers.”
In her reaction, WHO Director, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health, Dr Maria Neira, warned that Working 55 hours or more per week was a serious health hazard.

She, therefore, called on governments, employers, and employees to wake up to the fact that long working hours could lead to premature death.

According to the analysis published in Environment International on Monday, WHO and ILO broke down the figure which revealed that 398,000 people died from stroke and 347,000 from heart disease in 2016 as a result of having worked at least 55 hours a week.

This indicates that between 2000 and 2016, the number of deaths from heart disease and stroke due to working long hours increased by 42 per cent and 19 per cent respectively.

Ban Mandatory Overtime

“This work-related disease burden is particularly significant in men (72 per cent of deaths occurred among males), people living in the Western Pacific and South-East Asia regions, and middle-aged or older workers.

“Most of the deaths recorded were among people dying aged 60-79 years, who had worked for 55 hours or more per week between the ages of 45 and 74 years,” part of an article published on WHO’s website read.

It added, “With working long hours now known to be responsible for about one-third of the total estimated work-related burden of disease, it is established as the risk factor with the largest occupational disease burden; this shifts thinking towards a relatively new and more psychosocial occupational risk factor to human health.”
Working 55 or more hours per week rather than to work 35-40 hours a week, the study concludes, is associated with an estimated 35 per cent higher risk of a stroke and a 17 per cent higher risk of dying from ischemic heart disease.

It noted that the number of people working long hours was increasing and stood at nine per cent of the total population globally – a trend that puts even more people at risk of work-related disability and early death.

On ways to tackle the alarming death trend, WHO and ILO advised governments to introduce, implement and enforce laws, regulations, and policies that ban mandatory overtime and ensure maximum limits on working time.

They also suggested bipartite or collective bargaining agreements between employers and workers’ associations that could arrange a working time to be more flexible, while at the same time agreeing on a maximum number of working hours.
Employees were also advised to share working hours to ensure that number of hours worked does not climb above 55 or more per week. Theguardianng
