Gov Ishaku to partner FG to halt Cameroonian soldiers’ invasion of Taraba communities

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has reiterated his commitment to liaise with the Federal Government to halt the further invasion of Taraba communities by foreign soldiers.

The governor, who made this known through the Commissioner of Information and Reorientation, Barrister Danjuma Adamu, at the weekend after leading a high powered government delegation to the attacked community, said the activities of the foreign soldiers will be effectively checkmated.

While sympathizing with the people, he said the state government will collaborate with the Federal Government in order to forestall future occurrences.

He said, “We have seen things for ourselves and we have heard the request made by the communities here. We will report back to the state governor for quick intervention and I am certain something positive would follow.”

Demonstrating the government’s determination to put an end to the attacks, he said the military have been stationed there to ensure the security of life and properties.

Also on his part, the traditional ruler of Shibong, Alexander Yamusa Garkwe, said the nature of the recent attack, which led to the death of no fewer than 12 persons including a traditional ruler, has made his subjects vulnerable.

He called for the deployment of marine police and soldiers to the area, saying failure to secure the area could lead to an exodus of residents to urban centres.

A palace guard who narrated how the attackers invaded the community said while a lot of our people escaped through the river, others narrowly escaped through the bush.

Also aligning his weight to that of the Commissioner and the traditional ruler, the council chairman of Takum, Shiban Tikari, warned the foreign soldiers to desist from taking advantage of any of the Taraba communities.

He expressed optimism that the military is capable of preventing further attacks along the borders. Dailypost

Militia kill three persons in Taraba community, injure several others

No fewer than three persons have been killed in Taraba State by suspected militias from the neighboring Benue State.

This, as observed by Dailypost, is coming when the people of the community are still in tears following recent windstorm that destroyed goods worth millions of Naira in the community.

The attackers, who launched their terrorism act on Rafinkada community of Wukari local government council Thursday, were said to have killed three persons, including two women and an elderly man.

The attack, which Dailypost noticed, has further frustrated the peace efforts of the State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku.

An eyewitness, who claimed to have narrowly escaped the scene, said the attackers stormed the village in their numbers on motorbikes, in the early hours of the day, shooting sporadically.

Several other persons were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries from gunshots.

The attack came barely three weeks after three farmers were gruesomely murdered in their farms located in the same council while preparing the soil for the forthcoming farming season.

Several sources from the affected community who spoke through telephone conversations with Dailypost, also claimed that the situation had forced several residents of the community to flee their homes.

Another source told our correspondent that apart from his mother, his younger brother was also killed.

The council chairman, Daniel Adi expressed dismay at the attack, which he ascribed to the “Tiv militias from Benue State.”

Also confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal said the command was aware of the development and that there were efforts to track down the perpetrators. Dailypost
