Senator Shehu Sani Defects To Opposition Party, PDP

Senator Shehu Sani, who represented the Kaduna Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly, has joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Sani was elected a senator on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) into the eight assembly from 2015 to 2019.

The Senator was unable to return to the senate in 2019 following an unresolved issue with serving Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

The controversies stopped him from getting the party ticket, which forced him to defect to the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) under which he contested but lost.

Recently the senator dumped the PRP but he did not state his new party.

According to Daily Trust, his close aide, Malam Suleiman Ahmed, confirmed his defection on Thursday, when he had a meeting with relevant PDP stakeholders in Kaduna.

“Yes, Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani has finally settled to join the PDP but official ceremony and reception will be in the next two weeks all things being equal,” he said.

Help stop attack on our accounts, PDP Tells Twitter CEO

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Emmanuel Agbo, has called on the Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, to use the occasion of his visit to Nigeria to reassure Nigerians that opposition Twitter handles are safe in the wake of increasing attacks by the President Muhammadu Buhari regime on dissenting voices on the social media space.

Agbo, who is the Deputy National Secretary of the PDP, in a statement on Saturday noted that it was no longer news that the Nigerian Government was working hard to spy on journalists, activists, media houses and opposition members all in a bid to target them for persecution.

He said, “We have seen the case of activist Aisha Yesufu who has had her Twitter account locked several times and recently, pro-government Twitter handles were calling for the execution of human rights champion, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, journalist Ahmad Salkida among others.

“There have also been reports that the Nigerian military procured a forensic technology designed to extract information from phones and computers.

“The report stated that two companies – Israel-based Cellebrite and US-based Access Data – that produce and market such technologies used by security forces to monitor and interrogate journalists, were already operating in Nigeria.

“What this means is that the current government is willing to go any length to target opposition voices even if it means compromising social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

“It is instructive that Twitter continues to serve as a platform to project the voices of many Nigerians who seek accountability from their government.

“We hope that it will continue to remain this way without the fear of waking up one day to hear that opposition Twitter accounts were spied on or shut at the request of the Nigerian Government or their agents.” Saharareporters

PDP, APC clash as gunmen attack primary venue

The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday accused the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and the All Progressives Congress of masterminding the attack on PDP leaders and members during the party’s governorship primary in Kogi State.

Some gunmen had shot indiscriminately and disrupted the primary.

But the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja said, “The resort to violence and bloodletting cannot save the  governor and his party, the APC, as the PDP and the people of Kogi State are firm in their resolve to confront and vanquish APC’s evil plots ahead of the November governorship election.

“It is clear to all that Governor Yahaya Bello has become chaotic in the face of his rejection by the people and has now resorted to violence in a failed desperate attempt to prevent our party from presenting a candidate for the election.”

However, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said he was not surprised that the PDP’s primary witnessed violence.

He said, “Anybody who understands the characters in Kogi PDP and their pasts will not be surprised by the event.

“Anyway, they knew it would be an exercise in futility  and that is why they are making it look like an attack from outsiders.

“The same Governor Yahaya Bello they are blaming made available the venue of their primary and used his own money to provide chairs for them and ensure their comfort during their ill-fated primary.”(Punch)

I’ll hand over to another PDP Governor —Dickson boasts

The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, on Tuesday, said he would lead the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the support of leaders of the state towards ensuring that the baton of leadership is handed over to another PDP governor.

Governor Dickson stated this at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa, the state capital.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, quoted the governor to have advised the PDP governorship aspirants to play opposition politics rather than scheming and causing divisions in their own party.

Governor Dickson reminded the people that the last election showed how the Federal Government deployed its might to undermine the security of the state in favour of their party members.
He, therefore, urged the PDP aspirants seeking elective positions in the forthcoming local government council and governorship polls to embark on massive mobilisation of people across the communities to achieve victory for the party.

According to the governor, the PDP aspirants have a better platform to contest elections and should campaign on the strength of the party’s landmark achievements in the state.
Dickson stressed that the PDP is the only political party with the popularity and strength to win free, fair and credible elections in Bayelsa State.
The Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, also cautioned that the guber election in Bayelsa State would be a class of two systems: the PDP and its massive supporters in the various constituencies and communities; and the APC, backed by Federal forces to attempt wresting political control.
He urged the people resist any attempt by cultists to return to power in Bayelsa, so as not to retard the process of growth in the state.

He said, “Another PDP governor will be elected in the next election. I urge all the people to step into the communities and mobilise the electorate. It will be my pleasure to lead the PDP with your support, so that another PDP governor will be elected.
“How we survived during the 2015 governorship election is by the grace of God and our mobilisation skills. You now have people who know how to play opposition politics. As we begin the transition programme, we expect you to put on the toga of an opposition person.

“You have a lot of work to do. It is their work to sow seeds of discord, but it’s your job to keep your party united, strong and stable.”
While calling on the people not to use former President Goodluck Jonathan’s name to destabilise the party, Governor Dickson pleaded with the stakeholders of the party to enforce the 30 per cent affirmative action accorded women for councillorship positions.

Governor Dickson, who also raised an alarm over the gradual decline of revenues from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), said the state's earnings for March 2019 alone was more than N3 billion less, in spite of the increase in crude oil price.
“The economy is so terrible. We are praying that the country doesn’t go into another recession with the way they are going. Crude oil is being produced; the quantity is high and the price is even better.
“Since January, your allocation has been going down. In January we had a shortfall of over N1bn; in February, it was N2bn, and we recorded a shortfall of N3bn in March. That is what we are going through. Throughout this year, your government has actually been in the red.”

On the forthcoming local government council elections, the governor said that extensive consultations were ongoing.
In his remarks, the state’s PDP Chairman, Hon. Cleopas Moses, urged stakeholders to place the interest of the state above other considerations in the course of their consultations concerning the governorship election.

Hon. Cleopas, who said engaging in consultation was key to resolving issues, also noted that 30% affirmative action had been set aside for women in the local government elections in line with the party’s gender-friendly policy.

Air Vice-Marshall Larry Koinyan (Retd) and Ms. Patience Ranami Abah were some of the stakeholders who thanked Governor Dickson for convening the meeting. They expressed the need for the party to field candidates with capacity to deliver.
The Bayelsa State PDP Women Leader, Madam Eunice Akene, also expressed appreciation to Governor Dickson for giving women the opportunity to serve at the local government level.

Why APC lost Zamfara, Bauchi, Imo, Oyo, others to PDP – Buhari’s aide, Ahmed

Ismael Ahmed, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investment Programmes, SIP, has spoken on Friday’s Supreme Court ruling in the intra-party case involving Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The judgement favoured People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the state.

The Supreme Court nullified APC votes in the 2019 general elections in Zamfara, declaring that the party had no candidates.

The five-member panel of justice led by Justice Tanko Mohammed, the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), in a unanimous judgement, held that the APC failed to conduct primaries in accordance with the party’s rules.

In his reaction posted on Twitter, Ahmed gave reasons the APC lost in some states to the opposition PDP.

He tweeted: “We lost two States before going to polls – Zamfara and Rivers. We lost Imo and Adamawa bc (because) of ego.

“We lost Sokoto and Bauchi due to false confidence. We lost Oyo due to whatever it was we lost Oyo for. We have work to do in the build-up to the next round. Serious work!”

Meanwhile, there was wild jubilation by PDP members in Gusau metropolis as well as headquarters of the 14 Local Government Areas of the state following the judgement.

Fani-Kayode denies dumping PDP, agrees to praising Buhari

Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, ex-minister of state for defence and critic of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), agreed praising President Muhammadu Buhari but has denied dumping opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said that the reports that he had joined APC are false. In tweet on Friday, he said the reports are “vile mendacities and perfidious falsehood’’. He said that it was true that he commended President Muhammadu Buhari for getting Zainab Aliyu out of Saudi Arabia prison.

The commendation, he said was not tantamount to joining the president’s political party. “Reports that I said I am “proud of Buhari” and that I have “dumped PDP” and “joined APC” are false. Those that are peddling such vile mendacities and perfidious falsehood are insane. I commended Buhari for getting the young lady in Saudi Arabia out of prison but it stops there,’’ he said in his tweet. Reports that I said I am "proud of Buhari" and that I have "dumped PDP" and "joined APC" are false.

Those who expect that the party will degenerate into crisis after the primaries have miscalculated

“Those who expect that the party will degenerate into crisis after the primaries have miscalculated. We will all work for the Atiku-PDP ticket to succeed and contribute ideas into solving the problems confronting Nigeria today.
“The event in Port Harcourt between yesterday and today was a victory for Nigeria and for democracy. We will not lose the momentum but sustain it to rebuild Nigeria and elect Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the next President of Nigeria.

Nigerians are fed up with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “and would be happy seeing PDP return to power

Nigerians are fed up with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “and would be happy seeing PDP return to power. I am sure other people like me that dumped the PDP to support President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014 against the then President Goodluck Jonathan are currently regretting their actions.
