Controversy as Actress Iyabo Ojo chides Funke Akindele for sponsoring ‘poor rating’ of Toyin Abraham’s new movie

Actress Iyabo Ojo has taken a swipe at her colleague Funke Akindele for allegedly paying a review platform to discredit a new movie by Toyin Abraham.

The Nation gathered Abraham’s new movie ‘Ghost and the tout too’, which premiered in the cinemas on Friday, September 10, was reviewed by a platform which specialises in reviewing movies – Cinema Pointer.

Osas Ighodaro, Mercy Johnson Okojie, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko were among the movie cast in Abraham’s new movie.

But CinemaPointer, in its review, ranked Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ above Abraham’s new film.

It described Abraham’s movie as “a haplessly brain-dead story”.

In an Instagram post, @cinemapointer, wrote: “Not recommended for intelligent people. Over the years, we have told you many truths but non-greater than this: Intelligent minds were not taken into consideration at all in the writing and in the making of ‘Ghost and The Tout Too’. Thusly, intelligent minds will not enjoy it at all,” it wrote in its review of Abraham’s movie.

It added: “Regardless of how flagrantly it copycats off ‘Ómó Ghetto: The Saga’ desperately hoping to shine like it. Unlike that one ‘The Ghost and The Tout Too’ doesn’t understand that movie-making is rooted in brain-work and not in using cinema to do ‘Yahoo’,abusing stardoms to fleece fandoms.

“Sadly, in ‘The Ghost and The Tout Too’, celebrity after celebrity only lead to leprotic performance after leprotic performance.

“As a haplessly brain-dead story leads to pointless scene after pointless scene, all soaked together in a deluge of sterile dialogue. So much so that trying to find any mirth seeing it would be an exercise in futility.

“Trust us, if you are intelligent, you are better off staying back home this weekend to watch ‘Ómó Ghetto: The Saga’ which incidentally opens on Netflix this Friday, 10th of September 2021. If not, brain go pain you tire.”

Reacting, Ojo said: “How much did Funke pay you to write this rubbish? The day she begins to find ways not to talk bad about her fellow colleagues or try to discredit their hard work or personality, that day she will begin to experience inner peace.

“Na social media you go dey form better person. I know you and you know me, we know ourselves wella and you @cinemapointer go back and tell your sender that no matter how many times you try to pull Toyin down of discredit her works, it won’t work.

“Toyin’s hard work and movie Ghost and The Tout Too’ will make box office and your blood gonna dry from hate and jealousy…I said what I said messenger of doom.”

Akindele and Abraham were yet to react to the issue as at the time of report.

But Ojo’s comment has generated mixed reactions from fans.

Responding @cinemapointer denied being paid for the review, it said: “We don’t sell reviews. We tell the Truth.” Thenationonlineng

Nollywood Actress Damilola Adegbite counsels single mothers

Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has urged single mothers never to deprive their children the opportunity of enjoying fatherly love.

The single mother of one has advised other single mothers to allow their kids have access to their dads.

In commemoration of the Father’s Day celebration on Sunday; the actress took to her Instagram page to address single mothers on the significance of fathers’ involvement in the lives their children.

Damilola Adegbite urged single mothers to allow their children’s fathers to be involved in their lives as much as possible; while adding that the children will eventually grow and someday inquire to know why they were deprived of fatherly love.

Sharing an image which had the inscription: “A FATHER’S MESSAGE To single mothers, the ‘Tinsel’ actress captioned post;

“There are three categories of single mothers: the ones whose children’s fathers cannot be in their life (e.g dead, incarcerated etc.);

The ones whose children’s fathers have abandoned them or who do more harm than good being a part of their lives (e.g cases of domestic violence); and then lastly, the ones who intentionally keep their children/child away from their father because they are angry, bitter, hurt and vengeful.

“To ‘category 3′ mums, today is a good day to reassess the situation.

There are many awesome fathers who genuinely crave to be in their children’s lives but are not allowed to by their moms.

Trust me, I understand how you feel.

Please soften your heart towards them and make decisions based on what’s best for your child.

You will not always be able to keep them separated from their father.

May our children not grow up and blame us or despise us for depriving them of their fathers’ love.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads.

You are loved and appreciated.” Thenationonlineng

Artist D'banj Will Make His Nollywood Debut in Jadesola Osiberu's 'Sugar Rush'

The film will reportedly hit the big screen this Christmas.

Over the past few years, Nigerian artist D'banj has been on somewhat of a hiatus. Following the success of his smash hit "Oliver Twist" from the 2017 album King Don Come, he admittedly flew under the radar for a while.

In 2018, he returned to the music scene with a few tracks including "Something for Something", a collaboration he did with South African artist Cassper Nyovest, and "Shake It", a track he hopped onto with Tiwa Savage.

More recently this year, D'banj released the vibrant track "Shy" and went on to give a stellar performance at the inaugural edition of the Afro Nation Festival in Portugal. Now it seems that the artist is looking to flex his acting muscles in his debut role in Nigerian filmmaker Jadesola Osiberu's Sugar Rush.

Osiberu took to Instagram to announce her new project and some of the talent she's rounded up for it. D'banj will star in the film alongside Adesua Etomi, Bisola Aiyeola and Omoni Oboli. Whilst details of the film's storyline are yet to be revealed, it is reported that the film will be hitting the big screen this coming Christmas. No stranger to producing blockbuster hits within Nollywood, Osiberu was behind the 2017 romantic comedy Isoken as well as local Nigerian television shows Rumor Has It and Gidi Up.
