Pep Guardiola told to apologise to Man City players after losing Champions League final

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has been told to apologize to every member of his squad after losing the Champions League final to Chelsea.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Jamie O’Hara, has said Guardiola displayed “arrogance” in his team selection for the game in Porto.

City lost 1-0 in their first European final, thanks to Kai Havertz’s 42nd minute strike.
Guardiola, who has been lauded for evolving City’s style this season, was accused of overcomplicating his selection on the big stage by pundits and supporters alike.
“I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

“It’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Manchester City in a long time. Bottle jobs. And an absolute disaster of a team selection from Pep Guardiola.
“I cannot believe he got it so wrong in such a big moment.

“Chelsea were brilliant, they were solid, they were organised. They were all over Man City in the first-half. They had their number.

“Guardiola got it so wrong with the team selection with no holding midfielder. If Timo Werner could shoot, it would have been 3-0 at half-time. They were all over them.
“I couldn’t believe what I was watching. It was a disgrace from Pep Guardiola,” O’Hara told TalkSPORT. Dailypost

EPL: Ole Solskjaer hints at Sanchez return to Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has bemoaned the "difficult" nature of the January transfer window and hinted at a possible Manchester United return for Alexis Sanchez.

Solskjaer could not provide an update on the pursuit of Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, and while there is still a chance the Portugal international can arrive at Old Trafford with a deal still to be done within the two clubs, United have less time to complete a move before Friday's deadline.

United remain some way apart on what they are willing to pay and what Sporting want for the 27-year-old - but Old Trafford chiefs are keen not to repeat the mistakes of previous windows and will not panic buy, fuelling a chance they will not make a signing before Friday's deadline, Skysports reports.

"I haven't got any updates for you on transfers," Solskjaer said. "I haven't got anything to say now.

"If there is something out there, then the club are pursuing that and looking at it. It is difficult this window - it's always been. I can't remember how many good deals that we've brought in in January.

"Henrik (Larsson)... Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra) - they were two good ones. It's hard, it's very hard because the clubs don't want to lose their best players." Skysports

EPL: Manchester United release statement after 2-0 defeat at West Ham

Manchester United have moved to assure supporters, that the club remain committed to “competing for trophies at the highest level”.

United, who lost 2-0 to West Ham on Sunday, won the last of their 20 league titles in 2013.
In the subsequent six seasons, the Red Devils have been criticised for the way they have balanced commercial success, with building a team capable of challenging for top honours.

But at a fans’ forum, United sought to address some of the supporter frustration, where they said the club is heading in the right direction.

A United statement read: “Everyone at the club, from the owners down, is focused on competing for and winning trophies at the highest level. To do that we have invested heavily in the playing squad and will continue to do so.

“At the same time, the exciting pool of talent coming through from our youth and academy sections is a result of increased investment in this area over the last five years. It’s important to note that while our successful commercial operation helps drive that investment, the priority is the focus on achieving success on the pitch.

“Similarly, it is worth noting that we are not looking at or buying players based on their commercial appeal. We agree that recruitment is critical. We are committed to getting this right and there has been huge investment in this area to put our recruitment department into a position to be able to deliver the manager the players he wants. This process is significantly more effective than four or five years ago.”(Dailypost)
