EPL: Hargreaves names 2 players Man U should sign this summer instead of Haaland, Kane

Former Bayern Munich midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has named Jadon Sancho and Raphinha as two players Manchester United should sign this summer.

The Red Devils are among the top European clubs jostling for the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, while they also have a long-standing interest in Tottenham’s Harry Kane

Hargreaves, a former Manchester United star, is advising them to shun the idea of signing Haaland and Kane both who are likely to cost £150m and instead keep Edinson Cavani for another season.

He believes United should keep the veteran striker and focus their efforts on bringing a new centre-half, a central midfielder and a right winger.

“With Cavani there he is almost an insurance policy and you can maybe go spend the money on three other players in important positions,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.

“Cavani, if he played the whole season, he could get you 25 goals.

“They are the second highest scorers in the Premier League already, is it really their biggest issue? Everybody could do with Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.

“Some of their best players are Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes. Those boys will get you enough goals.

“Bring in another centre back, central midfielder and get another right winger.

“I think to go find a winger, Jadon Sancho would be amazing.

“You think about Raphinha at Leeds, you think about what he could do at this United team. You can’t spend £100m on every player.” Dailypost

EPL: Clubs to be fined £37 million each over suspension of matches

The English Premier League (EPL) clubs might be fined £37 million each by broadcasters if the 2019/2020 season is cancelled following the suspension of matches due to the spread of coronavirus in the United Kingdom (UK).

According to a report, the deal between the Premier League and broadcasting channels like Sky Sports and BT Sport states that both broadcasters will televise 128 games and 52 games respectively. However, with the suspension of the league until at least April 30, 2020, Premier League will not fulfil its TV commitments before July 31.

There are reports that Sky Sports and BT Sport are weighing legal actions to ensure their investment into televising the cancelled matches doesn’t waste. The Premier League’s current UK broadcasting deal is worth £5 billion. It was learnt that if the broadcasters succeed in their demand, the 20 Premier League clubs will cough out a total of £750 million.

Clubs are not willing to make payment: The EPL clubs are not willing to pay such fine as the suspension was caused by an epidemic beyond control. But the Premier League also intends to ease the tension in order not to damage relationships with broadcasters ahead of the next rights cycle in two years’ time.

Aside from the topflight EPL, the lower division leagues in England are also affected by the suspension of League matches across the UK. This is because the lower divisions earn lesser broadcasting revenue, while their major revenue source comes from matchday earnings.

It was reported that the 47 League One and League Two clubs stand to lose a combined £50 million in gate receipts, sponsorship and season tickets if the campaign cannot restart before the summer. This could lead to the clubs going out of business, so to prevent that, there are suggestions that the EFL, the Premier League and other soccer organisations should financially contribute. Tottenham, Inter Milan, and Lazio were among the clubs that wanted to sign the France World Cup winner.

“The most interesting for me was Inter Milan,” Giroud told Telefoot.

“The problem was that it dragged on. Lazio and Tottenham were there too, but I was blocked.”

Giroud added: “I knew I should not go on strike, or go to sulk in the locker room.

“Because it was not me, and because I knew there was a good chance I would stay at Chelsea.”

Giroud’s current contract at Chelsea will expire at the end of the season. Dailypost

EPL: Manchester United told who to sign as Pogba’s replacement

Former Manchester United star, Lee Sharpe, has urged the club to sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish as Paul Pogba’s replacement at Old Trafford this summer transfer window.

According to Sharpe, Grealish would be a perfect replacement for Pogba and also a great addition for the Red Devils.

Pogba has not played for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side since December 26 due to an ankle injury and is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 2018 France World Cup winner has drawn interest from Juventus and Real Madrid in recent months.

“Jack Grealish is a class act,” Sharpe told GentingBet ahead of Man United’s Premier League derby with Manchester City on Sunday.

“I love watching Grealish play. I believe he is fantastic on the ball; his vision and awareness are absolutely second to none.

“And I think he would be there to replace Pogba.

“If Grealish joins United and they are playing Fernandes, there is no room in the team really for someone like Pogba, and I feel that they will now have many creative midfielders.

“I believe Grealish would do great at United, and he will be a great addition to the squad.” Dailypost

EPL: We have the worst injury list – Frank Lampard speaks ahead of Everton clash

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has claimed that they have the worst injury list, ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Everton.

Lampard, speaking to the media on Friday, revealed that Christian Pulisic was lacking match fitness, despite taking part in an in-house game along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek on Friday.

Pulisic has not featured for the Blues since January 1.

Is it right for Herdsmen to carry AK47 around?

“We had an in-house game [on Friday] which Christian [Pulisic] and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek played.

“I just watched it and they are trying to find match fitness. It’s great to see Christian get some minutes but he’s still short of match fitness,” Lampard said.

When asked if Abraham would return before the end of March, Lampard replied: “I hope so, he’s not training with us yet.

“Hudson-Odoi had another injury and is having a scan later today. It’s tough for him. He wasn’t rushed back. He did it training back with us.

“It’s another injury for us. We have had the worst injury list. We are working.

“Kovacic is not fit and we will have to assess Willian, who is a question mark for the weekend.” Dailypost

EPL: VAR official punished for failing to send Giovani Lo Celso off against Chelsea

Referee David Coote has been dropped from this weekend’s Premier League games, after failing to send Giovani Lo Celso off, for a rash tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Lo Celso appeared to stamp on Azpilicueta’s leg in the second half, but was not even booked.

Michael Oliver who was the centre referee for the match missed the incident and VAR waved it aside after a review.

Coote has now not been named to officiate a game, appear as an assistant nor take part in Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties.

Oliver will, however, be in charge when champions-elect Liverpool travel to Watford in Saturday’s late kick-off. Dailypost

EPL: Frank Lampard reveals Chelsea board’s reaction to his decision to bench Kepa

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has said the board are in support of his decision to drop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues made Kepa the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, when they paid Athletic Bilbao £71.5million last season.

However, the Spaniard has struggled recently and been replaced by Willy Cabellero for last three matches.

Chelsea have conceded five goals in those games, but Lampard insists he has the backing of the board.

“I am absolutely together with the club and the board.

“We all want the best. I am paid to make decisions.

“It has been a decision to make on form with the goalkeeping situation. Recently it’s just changed, but that’s nothing final.

“All Kepa needs to do is train and show a great attitude, as I demand from all the players. And things can obviously change,” Lampard told the media on Friday. Dailypost

EPL: Arsenal set to bring Santi Cazorla back

Arsenal are exploring ways to give Santi Cazorla one last run out in the club’s colours, according to FourFourTwo.

Cazorla played for the Gunners for six years and won two FA Cups during that time.

The Spaniard, who was a fan favourite amongst the Emirates Stadium faithful, was hit by a career-threatening injury late in his Arsenal career.

Cazorla eventually moved back to Spain, where he currently plays for Villarreal.

The 35-year-old has previously expressed how sad he was, to have not had a chance to properly say goodbye to Arsenal.

EPL: Steven Gerrard “really interested” to see Man City stripped of 2014 title

Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, says he is “really interested” to see if the Premier League will take action against Manchester City, which could see them stripped of the title they won in 2014.

City have been handed a two-year suspension from European competitions by UEFA, for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

However, the champions will appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Pep Guardiola’s men could also lose a title, if a separate Premier League investigation deducts points retrospectively.

Gerrard was Liverpool’s captain, when City won the title in 2014, with only two points.

“We will see whether the Premier League acts from there. But if you look at the severity of the punishment from UEFA, something has gone badly wrong.

“So I’m really interested to see the outcome of that. Until I get the punishment from the Premier League, I won’t comment further. But I’m really, really interested in it…for obvious reasons,” Gerrard told reporters on Sunday. Dailypost

EPL: Paul Pogba’s agent hints at Juventus return

Mino Raiola, the agent to Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has admitted the player “would not mind” returning to Juventus after this season.

Pogba is currently recovering from ankle surgery and has been out for several weeks.

The 26-year-old rejoined United from Juve in 2016 for a then world-record transfer fee of £89m, but has endured a topsy-turvy time at Old Trafford.

Pogba’s current deal expires at the end of next season, but he could be back in Turin before then.

“Italy is like home for Paul. He would not mind going back to Juve but we will see what will happen after the Euros.

“Paul wants to play at the best level but he can’t escape by Manchester United if they are in a difficult situation,” Raiola told reporters after Juventus drew 1-1 with AC Milan on Thursday. Dailypost

EPL: Arsenal hope to have Aubameyang’s 3 match ban reduced

Arsenal hope to have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s three-game ban reduced, Goal reports.

Aubameyang was sent off during the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last Saturday.

The Gunners captain, who opened the scoring at Selhurst Park, saw red after a challenge on Max Meyer midway through the second half.

Referee Paul Tierney initially showed him a yellow card, but it was upgraded by VAR to a red.

Speaking after the game, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta said: “I just watched it and it looked nasty, to be fair. Knowing Auba, there’s no intention to make such a tackle.

“Hopefully he hasn’t been injured and we are sorry for that. The decision was made and we have to accept it.”

Arsenal however feel the three-match ban is excessive.

Although they won’t launch an appeal to have it fully overturned, they feel there are enough mitigating circumstances to have the suspension reduced.

The Gunners believe Aubameyang did not use excessive force and it only looked bad during replays. They also believe there are plenty of examples of similar challenges which have been looked at by VAR this season.

“His situation at Chelsea has not changed for two months,” Deschamps was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“It would be better for him, obviously, to go to a club where he will have more playing time. If he cannot have this playing time at Chelsea, the idea is to be able to have it elsewhere. It is up to him to decide the solution.”

Deschamps added: “I don’t know what offers he has, where it might be possible for him to get more playing time.

“We saw each other not so long ago. As with every player, he’s the one who decides. But keep in mind that it’s the daily life of players with their clubs that leads to France selection. He knows it.” Dailypost

EPL: Roy mocks Mourinho’s Tottenham after Man Utd defeat Man City

Former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane, has questioned Tottenham’s mentality, following the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, saw United take control of the derby at the Etihad.

Although Nicolas Otamendi pulled one back in the 85th minute, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side held on.

United had beaten Jose Mourinho’s Spurs at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, but Keane says that result was “not a big deal”.

He told Sky Sports: “I said before the show, I didn’t think beating Tottenham at home was a big deal for Manchester United. Spurs, we know their mentality.

“But beating Man City will only given the players confidence. They’ve been criticised a lot recently and today we need to take our hats off.

EPL: Freddie Ljunberg reveals why he dropped Pepe for Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Norwich

Arsenal interim manager, Freddie Ljungberg, has said Nicolas Pepe will be given a “fair chance” to win back his place in the side, after he was benched for the 2-2 draw against Norwich City on Sunday.

Ljungberg took charge of his first game after replacing Unai Emery on Friday.

The Gunners went behind on two occasions at Carrow Road, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice to salvage a draw.

Pepe was left on the bench, as Ljungberg opted to bring on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli as his attacking substitutions in the second half.

“I haven’t had that word with them but for me that’s how it works,” Ljungberg told Sky Sports.

“I’ve looked, of course. I’ve been here [in the first team] for three months, last year I was the manager of the Under-23s, so I saw every game of the first team.

“So of course, I have an opinion about how we can play and players.

“But I try to see it just like that, everybody has a fair chance.

“What I see in training and games, that’s what I’m going to judge it on.”

When asked directly about Pepe’s omission against Norwich, Ljungberg replied: “Pepe’s a very good player.

“But like I said, I try to look at what’s being done in training and what I see every day, and that’s how I judge it.” Dailypost
