PDP Dino Melaye storms INEC headquarters, presents video documentary evidence

Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the Kogi West Senatorial rerun election, on Wednesday stormed the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to express his displeasure over results of the just-concluded election in the state.


According to Dailypost news, Melaye, who was received by INEC’s National Commissioner and Secretary, Festus Okoye, presented a petition with 21 video documentary evidence.

The sacked Senator made the disclosure in a tweet via his Twitter handle.

“National commissioner of INEC Festus Okoye and Secretary of INEC receiving my petition today with 21 video CD’s documentary evidence,” he tweeted.

The last Saturday’s election in Kogi State was marred with electoral malpractice and violence.


INEC had declared the Kogi West senatorial rerun election inconclusive.

The Returning Officer, Professor Olayinde Lawal, had said the margin between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Smart Adeyemi and Melaye of the PDP was 20,570.

He had said Adeyemi polled a total of 80,118 votes, while Melaye got 59,548 votes from the seven local government areas in the senatorial district.

Dino Melaye vows to become Kogi governor


Senator Dino Melaye is very optimistic he will become the next governor of Kogi state.



 
The electoral commission has scheduled the state governorship election for November 16.
The senator had earlier unveiled his poster for the gubernatorial race Senator Dino Melaye has disclosed that he will be elected the Kogi state governor by November in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.

Melaye, representing Kogi West in the Senate had recently declared his ambition to vie for the governorship seat of Kogi under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The lawmaker has intensified campaign with lots of posters and jingles on display on Twitter and Instagram, as well as showcased his achievements in the state.




“I will be governor of Kogi state by the special Grace of God,” he said on his Instagram page on Sunday, June 23. He added that “knowing yourself is the very foundation of all wisdom.” (Agency report)

Saraki mourns Dino Melaye mother's death


President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has expressed anguish over the death of the Mother of Senator Dino Melaye, Deaconess Comfort Melaye, whom he described as a worthy matriarch who bequeathed her generation with godly and respectable children.      

   

Saraki, in statement on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said that the late Madam Melaye would be remembered for her philanthropy, good nature and exemplification of the core Christian values.

He urged Senator Melaye and all members of his family to take solace in the fact that their mother lived a good life and left a legacy of true and humane values in all her children.

     

   
Saraki said: “On behalf of my family and the entire 8th Senate, my heart goes out to Senator Dino Melaye and his family in this moment of grief.

“I pray that the Almighty grants our departed mother eternal rest, and her family and loved ones, the strength and fortitude to bear this significant loss.”
