Lewandowski wins European Golden Shoe ahead of Messi, Ronaldo

Europe’s “Golden Shoe” winner Robert Lewandowski sent out a warning to defences around Europe on Tuesday when he likened himself to a ‘good wine’ that was still improving.

The Bayern Munich striker also offered warm praise and thanks to his wife Anna when he received the award as top scorer in European football last season.

Lewandowski netted 41 times in 29 games for Bayern in the 2020-21 season, breaking the great Gerd Mueller’s record of 40 goals in a Bundesliga season, set in 1971-72.

His tally represents the highest in Europe since Cristiano Ronaldo bagged 48 goals for Real Madrid in 2014-15.

The 33-year-old forward insisted, though, that there were still plenty more goals and titles yet to come.

“I’m still here, and I will be here for a long time!” said Lewandowski.

“Age is just a number, I feel very good, my form indicators have never been so good.

“I know that with my body I can still play for years at the highest level. I am like good wine and I hope to become even better.”

This season, Lewandowski has already scored seven goals in five days as champions Bayern top the early Bundesliga table.

“It’s not over yet, we are still hungry for titles,” said Lewandowski who hopes to help Bayern to a second Champions League title to add to the one he won with them in 2020.

“I don’t need to go and prove myself in another league”, said the striker who was linked with Real Madrid a few years ago.

“With the Champions League, I can measure myself against the best. I am 100 percent focused on Bayern and I don’t think about anything else.”

At the ceremony held at Bayern’s Allianz Arena on Tuesday, the Poland striker was effusive in his praise for his wife who is also his personal “motivation coach”.

“I have to thank my wife, she is a great support for me and a motivation when things are not going so well,” he said.

A former Polish international karateka, Anna Lewandowska is also a nutritionist and oversees her husband’s diet.

“I am very proud of him,” she said. “He is extraordinary as a person, as an athlete, as a partner, as a friend and as a husband.”

Lewandowski is only the second Bundesliga player to win the award after Mueller, who won in 1970 and 1972.

Lionel Messi has won the award a record six times while Ronaldo has taken it four times but they only scored 30 and 29 goals respectively in 2020-21.

Signing C Ronaldo was a mistake – Ex-Juventus boss

Former Juventus chairman Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has called on the club to rectify the “mistake” of signing Cristiano Ronaldo by selling him as soon as possible.

Juve paid a club-record £99million to prise Ronaldo from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, UK Mirror reports.

The Portuguese superstar joined on a four-year contract and plundered 101 goals in his first three seasons, winning every domestic honour available to him.

But the start of the current campaign has not gone to plan, with Ronaldo said to be pushing for a move to Manchester City after he reportedly requested to be on the bench for Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Udinese.

Nonetheless, Ronaldo remains the biggest attraction in Serie A and Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri’s squad would be significantly weaker without the 36-year-old.

Chairman Andrea Agnelli has previously justified the financial side of signing Ronaldo and handing him a contract worth €31million (£26.5m) per season.

However, his predecessor sees things very differently and insists Juve will never make back the money they have stumped up for Ronaldo.

As well as criticising the Bianconeri’s transfer strategy, Gigli also took aim at Ronaldo’s play style by declaring he “hampers Juventus ‘ attack”.

“I’ve always been honest: signing Ronaldo was a mistake. It’s impossible to recoup the investment and it will remain that way,” Gigli – who was Juventus chairman between 2006 and 2009 – told SerieANews .

“He’s a great player, but I have to be honest – the sooner he leaves, the better for him and for Juventus.

“I hope that Massimiliano Allegri knows how to continue using him like he did against Udinese. That is, with intelligence and when the game is in progress.

“Ronaldo hampers Juventus’ attack. Without him, they can do excellent things in collective terms.”

Gigli’s wish for Ronaldo to leave Turin may soon be granted, as the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is understood to be negotiating a transfer with City chiefs.

Pep Guardiola’s side will reportedly target the former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward if they fail to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham in the final days of the transfer window.

Ronaldo, for his part, is keen on the transfer as he believes joining City would give him the best chance to add to his five Ballons d’Or. Punchng

C Ronaldo in shock move to Tottenham

Cristiano Ronaldo could be making a shocking move to English Premier League side, Tottenham.

This is according to Sport Italia Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Michele Criscetiello, who revealed that the Portuguese future at Juventus is uncertain.

He said the former Real Madrid striker may be going to Tottenham.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently, Manchester City.

More speculations were fuelled on Sunday after the superstar asked Juve boss, Mass Allegri not start him in their clash against Udinese on Sunday.

And Criscetiello suggested his future was far from resolved and him going to Spurs is a possibility.

Criscetiello told Sport Italia, “Since he came back we have said it, there is a clear will on the part of Max Allegri not wanting to start again with Ronaldo and vice versa.

“The cycle of CR7 in black and white is over, confirmation has arrived in Udine. Even the Tottenham possible destination.” Dailypost

Serie A: C Ronaldo speaks after reaching 50 goals in Juventus’ win over Fiorentina

Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday, said he was proud after reaching 50 goals as a Bianconeri player following his side’s 3-0 victory against Fiorentina in the Serie A.

He also expressed happiness after scoring two goals against Fiorentina.

The Portugal captain netted two against Fiorentina to take his tally to 50 goals for the club since joining the Serie A champion from Real Madrid in 2018.

C Ronaldo- I hope to return to Madrid soon

The Portuguese superstar admitted that he misses the Spanish capital at an awards ceremony Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has said he "hopes to return to Madrid soon" as he received the Marca Leyenda award.

The Portuguese superstar spent a decade at Real Madrid, where he won four of his five Ballons d’Or and four Champions Leagues, as well as two La Liga crowns and two Copa del Rey titles, scoring a whopping 450 goals in just 438 games for the club.

He moved to Italy with the Bianconeri last summer in search of a new challenge, but he admits that he misses the Spanish capital and felt sad to leave Los Blancos as he received the prestigious Marca Leyenda award in Madrid.

"I felt sorry when I left Real Madrid,” Ronaldo said at the awards ceremony.

"I miss both [Manchester and Madrid] but because of life's circumstances I have lived more years in Madrid, my children and my girl were born here, so I miss Madrid more.

"This trophy will be in a very nice place in my museum. Madrid is special, I travel a lot but there are few cities like Madrid. Much of this award is derived from what I did in Madrid. It is a Spanish trophy and leaves me very honoured. Thanks to all those who have helped me to achieve it. It is a pride for me. And I hope to return to Madrid soon.”

Ronaldo also opened up on his ambitions as a child, the title that he treasures most, and his Champions League hopes for the coming season.

"I never thought about [reaching this level]. My dream was always [just] to be a professional player.

"All titles are important but possibly [the 2016 European Championship] because it is special. It is not the same, when you win something for your country and you know that it is more difficult, it is the most important thing in my career."

“I don't know [if I will win the Champions League this year with Juventus]. We will try, as always. Hopefully Juventus wins."
