EPL: My career has been in shambles at Chelsea – Drinkwater cries out

England midfielder, Danny Drinkwater has admitted that his stay at Chelsea has been nothing but a ‘shambles.’

The former Leicester City man said he is now looking at reviving his career at Reading, where he is currently on a season long loan.

Drinkwater, now 31, joined Chelsea from Leicester City in September 2017 for a huge £35m fee, but has failed to find his feet in west London, playing just 23 games for the Blues.

The Englishman has spent time on loan at Burnley, Aston Villa, Turkish side Kasimpasa before joining Reading this summer.

“Can I paint a picture? No. It’s been a shambles,” Drinkwater told talkSPORT of his Chelsea career.

“It’s football, it’s never straight forward, it’s never simple. I’m just excited for the new challenges.

“I need to [kick-start my career]. I’m more excited about this than I have been for a few years now, especially how my career’s panned out.

“Games, getting the enjoyment of football back, then going from there. A few have slid away, I’ve made mistakes, I’ve not played.

“I’m in the last year of my contract, so there’s more than just football riding on it. I’ve got other things.”

However, some Premier League followers think that Drinkwater, who won the league with Leicester City in 2016, should have remained with the Foxes and should not have left the club for Chelsea.

Chelsea in the other hand were thinking of bringing to Stanford Bridge the N’Golo Kante and Drinkwater midfield partnership which propelled the Foxes to their first Premier League title in 2016. Dailypost
