Delta hospital frees twins’ mother detained over bills

Nursing mother, Mrs Favour Otote, who was detained for three months at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State, over unpaid hospital bills, has been released.

Mrs Otote had for the past three months been held in the maternity ward of the hospital after giving birth to twins in the health facility.

PUNCH Metro gathered that her husband paid N130,000 out of the N480,000 bills charged by the hospital management.

A source said, “The woman gave birth to twins three months ego, but could not pay the hospital bills. Since then, they were detained at the hospital.

“The situation forced Mr Otote to seek financial assistance from a member representing Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Festus Okoh, through Mr Jerome Ozakpolor, a councillor in the Ika South Local Government Area. Okoh personally went to the hospital and cleared the balance of N285,000 to set the family free.”

The couple, who hail from Ozanogogo in the Ika South LGA, described the lawmaker as a kind-hearted man and appreciated the gesture.

Our correspondent learnt that many women who could not pay their hospital bills were still being held in the hospital.

When contacted, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center, Asaba, Dr Victor Osiatuma, said, “Get out of my phone; don’t call this number again.” Punchng
