Herdsman killed, cattle poisoned in Southern Kaduna, says Miyetti Allah

SOME gunmen have reportedly attacked a Fulani herdsman at Mytei village in Atyap Chiefdom of Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed this on Monday, said five suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack.

This is just as the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Kaduna State, said apart from the killing, some Kataf militia allegedly poisoned two cows belonging to one Fada and killing them in the process.

According to the commissioner, the military operatives informed the state that the herder was killed while grazing in Matyei village.

Aruwan, who gave the name of the herder killed as Ado Hassan, said, “Troops responded to a report of a farm destroyed in the village on Sunday afternoon, and arrived at the scene to discover that a herder; one Ado Hassan, had been shot dead by unknown persons.”

He said investigation led to the arrest of five suspects and listed their names as David Kure, Peter Adamu, Bulus Duniya, and Matthew Peter as well as Yohanna Chawai

He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed dismay at the killing and sent condolences to the family of the herder, while praying for the repose of his soul.

Also, a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity, Kaduna State chapter of MACBAN, Ibrahim Bayero-Zango, alleged that some Kataf militia on New Year Day (Friday), poisoned some cattle belonging to one Fada and killed two of his cows.

He said, “The Kataf militias are presently using some poisoned substance and inject it in to oranges and keep the oranges where the cattle are grazing. Immediately a cow eats the orange and drinks water, the poison kills the cow instantly.” Punch
