Confederation Cup: Rivers expect tough tie against Celtic

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma and midfielder Kehinde Adedipe expect a tough game when they face South African side Bloemfontein Celtic in their first round second leg CAF Confederation Cup fixture on Wednesday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

The Port Harcourt-based side ran out 2-0 winners away from home a fortnight ago in South Africa and despite the huge advantage, Eguma says they will take the match seriously.

“We are not going to be complacent. It is a two-legged game and we have prepared well for the return leg. We beat them in South Africa in the first leg and I know they will come out all guns blazing hoping to change the result, we will be ready,” Eguma told Punch

“They won’t approach the game like they did in the first leg and we won’t too. We have our game plan and we are very ready for them. We are also not expecting an easy match.”

Adedipe, who was instrumental to the team’s fine performance against Futuro Kings in the preliminary stage of the competition, says they are wary of their opponents, who won away against Congolese side AS Maniema Union in the preliminary stage.

“I don’t think it’s over because we have a big fight to battle with Bloemfontein Celtic players. They will want to come here and fight and we are ready for them.

“They have a good away record in the competition. In the previous round, they went away to win and they will have the same positive mindset that they can do it here again but believe me they have met their waterloo,” Adedipe said. Punch
