Borno govt lists 1,163 school enrollees’ parents for allowances



BORNO State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has said that social welfare will be restricted to parents whose children attended functional schools established by the state government.

The governor, who made this remark on Monday during his visit to Damasak, the headquarters of Mobbar Local Government, added that whether the schools attended were Islamic or western education, such parents would benefit from government’s social welfare.

Zulum also supervised the enrolment of 1,163 children of internally displaced persons into primary school in one of the insurgency affected towns in the state.

The governor provided equipment to farmers to boost dry season farming, relief materials to over 10,000 IDPs and personally supervised the enrolment of students in the town along the shores of Lake Chad.

Appealing to parents to allow their children enrol in schools, the governor, who was on the third day of his visit to the area on Monday, enrolled the pupils, who mostly hailed from Guzamala and Abadam Local Government Areas in northern Borno.

The students had been out of school since the displacement of their parents and guardians, by Boko Haram, following attacks on communities they lived.

He also addressed secondary school students in Damasak and those who had written their Senior Schools Certificate Exam in preparation for higher institution. Punch
