Nigeria govt monitors Lagos projects

The Implementation Monitoring Committee of the National Economic Council will be visiting Lagos State from Tuesday to monitor major projects of the state government.

These include agriculture, infrastructure, solid minerals, investment, industrialisation, empowerment, revenue generation, among others.

A statement on Sunday said the visit was part of Federal Government’s efforts at repositioning the economy and protecting states against recession.

The statement, signed by the Lagos State Resilience Office, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, noted that the National Economic Council at a special retreat in 2016 adopted a 71-point resolution covering seven major thematic areas to be adopted by states to enhance rapid and sustainable economic growth in response to the economic downturn in the country.

The implementation monitoring committee was said to have embarked on phase one of the monitoring exercise, which covered about 27 states in 2017.

Commissioners of economic planning and budgets were reportedly sent e-templates to prepare for the second phase.

“They are expected to populate with their choice projects in their states in line with the 71 resolutions set by the National Economic Council to achieve strong and sustainable economic growth in the respective states of the federation,” the statement added. Punch
