In Lagos: Driver jailed for stealing employer’s car

A 30-year-old driver, Bob Badamosi, was on Monday sentenced to one year imprisonment by the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Igbosere for stealing his employer’s car.

It was gathered that Badamosi had on January 21, 2020, at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Marina, Lagos, stole a blue Honda Accord car with number plate APP 788 EA and chassis number IHCP26838A809355 worth N2.6m and belonging to one Lukman Adekola.

Badamosi was said to have to stolen the car and ran to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after dropping off Adekola at the NSE.

It was learnt that on getting to Port Harcourt, Badamosi parked the vehicle on an estate for two days to seek a buyer and later returned with an interested buyer on the third day.

However, the buyer did not buy the vehicle and left, and while still standing with the vehicle, Badamosi was approached by some policemen, who asked for the owner of the car, but the convict told them that it belonged to his boss in Lagos and he was arrested.

Badamosi was arraigned on one count of stealing, which he pleaded guilty to.

The prosecutor, Tope Adegbite, told the court that the offence was contrary to Section 287 (7)(10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Reviewing the facts of the case, Adegbite stated that Badamosi was employed on January 6, 2020, and he stole the car 15 days later.

After listening to the facts of the case, Magistrate A. A. Runsewe sentenced him to one year imprisonment. Punch
