Residents of Ayetoro community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have called on the Federal Government to save them from being swept away by the Atlantic Ocean.
It was learnt that part of the coastal community had been submerged after the sea overflowed its banks, while property worth millions of naira had been destroyed.
According to Punch news,The Secretary General of the community and a member of Ogeloyinbo-in-Council, Mr Dele Kudehinbu, said over 200 buildings had been swept away while many families had been displaced.
Also, the Chairman, Board of Registered Trustees of the Holy Apostle Church, Apostle Iwasanmi Ajijo, confirmed that the ocean had wreaked havoc in the community.
According to him, the Federal Government, through the Niger Delta Development Commission, had awarded a contract to two firms to tackle the problem but nothing had been done.
While calling on the government and other intervention agencies to intervene, Ajijo said the solution to the problem was beyond what the community could afford.
