In Kano: Fire kills couple, two-year-old daughter

Tragedy struck in the ancient city of Kano on Wednesday when some unidentified arsonists allegedly set ablaze a family of three.

It was learnt that the arsonists locked up the gate of the house before setting the building ablaze.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred in Gayawa quarters, in the Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that all efforts by neighbours to rescue the family failed.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Sa’idu Ibrahim, confirmed the tragedy.

“On our arrival at the scene at about 4.08am, we broke the door of the house and found that three members of the family, the husband, 50-year-old Aminu Bala; his wife, 30-year-old Rukayya Aminu; and their two-year-old daughter, Aisha Aminu  have suffered high degrees of injuries.

“Our men rushed them to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where a doctor on duty certified them dead,” Ibrahim said.

Also, the police spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu,  had directed an investigation into the incident. (Punch)
