APC ex-Presidential kick-start ‘Oshiomhole to go’ campaign

As part of efforts to rebuild the All Progressives Congress (APC), a coalition of APC ex-presidential aspirants yesterday began a wider consultation across the six geo-political zones with the aim of canvassing for the removal of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman before 2023.

In the same vein, the Edo State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) has expressed displeasure over the disagreement concerning the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly, urging the APC to put its house in order in the interest of Edo people.

However, the ex-APC presidential aspirants in a statement signed by Al-  haji Mumakai Unagha, on behalf of other aspirants, stated that the coalition was expected to meet with the national leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governors under the platform of APC and critical stakeholders.

He said: “Some of the issues to be discussed or canvass include, Oshiomhole Must Go, the need to constitute the party Board of Trustees (BoT) as well as strengthening the Elders Councils of the party. He said the coalition was worried over the future of the party with Oshiomhole as the national chairman, noting that the leaders must take urgent steps to redeem the party before 2023.

Unaga said: “Otherwise we shall meet brick wall with Oshiomhole as the National Chairman. He is a cancer in the party and we cannot fold our hands watching the party being destroyed. We challenge all APC faithful to the recovery of the party.”
On his part, Chairman, IPAC, Hon. Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, said this at IPAC’s 2nd general meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Annex office, in Benin City. Ogbaloi conveyed the displeasure of the council over the rancour within the APC-led government in relation to the inauguration of the state House of Assembly.

He said: “We advise the APC to manage its success for the benefit of the society. We hope that Governor Godwin Obaseki and Oshiomhole would be on top of the issue to ensure no further issues arise. We applaud the government for being able to inaugurate the Assembly as we congratulate the Speaker, Frank Okiye.
“The policies driven by Obaseki are laudable. He is civil and novel in his approach. Compared to what we saw in the past from political leaders, he is a breath of fresh air. There are cases where vital projects were abandoned or discontinued, but his government is outstandingly different.”

In his response, Obaseki, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Hon. Gowon Yakubu, expressed appreciation to IPAC for acknowledging the achievements recorded by his administration. Obaseki harped on the need for collaboration among various stakeholders to address the political challenges in the country. (Saturday Telegraph)
