Police confirm death at Emir of Kano’s Palace, make arrests

The police in Kano on Thursday confirmed that death resulted from the violence that brought an abrupt end to Wednesday’s durbar held at the palace of the embattled Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Briefing newsmen in Kano, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abdullahi Haruna, however confirmed only one death contrary to earlier media reports that many people were feared killed during the incident.

He said that the remains of the victim – whose identity is yet to be established – have been deposited in the mortuary of the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
DSP Haruna appealed to people whose relatives are missing to visit the mortuary to identify the victim.

The Kano Police Spokesman disclosed that 10 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence, adding that investigation into the incident is already in progress. News Express
