@Sports Africa : Ghana suspends DG, National Sports Authority, Dept Minister, Youth and Sports over Commonwealth visa fiasco

The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has announced the suspension of two sports officials following the arrest of 60 Ghanaians posing as journalists who tried to illegally enter Australia for the Commonwealth Games.

The Director General the National Sports Authority (NSA), Robert Sarfo Mensah, and the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, bagged their suspension as a result of the fracas, Ghana Presidency Spokesman Eugene Arhin in a statement announced that the duo are "suspended from office, with immediate effect."

"This decision has been taken following preliminary investigations conducted into the circumstances that led to the arrest of some sixty (60) Ghanaians, who had allegedly attempted to enter Australia by false pretences," said Arhin,

He added that three other officials have been called back from Australia to participate in the investigation.

This action was said to have been necessitated after reports surfaced that the Australian authorities had deported dozens of Ghanaians pretending to be journalists.

However, while responding to the suspension, Australia's high commissioner to Ghana Andrew
Barnes said, "Australian border enforcement is quite strict and we don't let people come to our country illegitimately."
Meanwhile, Ghana’s president, Akufo-Addo has however vowed to crack down on corruption in Ghana, the world's second-largest cocoa producer behind Ivory Coast.
