Scoring against Europa Champions is a thing of joy – Arsenal young star, Nwakali
Arsenal youngster, Kelechi Nwakali has commended the performance put forth by the Nigeria Super Eagles during a classical encounter between the Europa League Champions, Atletico Madrid and Gernot Rohr’s side yesterday evening.
Nwakali in his non-competitive debut for the Super Eagles said that it gives him great joy to have scored a beautiful goal against a side like Atletico Madrid, adding that it’s up to the Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr to make a final decision regarding his chance in the 2018 World Cup squad.
He said, “Scoring against the Europa champions was a thing of joy, we thank God for the moment, all we just do is work, keep pushing until we get there.”
On his chances in Russia, Nwakali said: “I am not the one to decide, the coach has to decide.
The Nigerian team were defeated by Atletico Madrid 3-2 in a friendly played on Tuesday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Nwakali, who scored the first goal for the Super Eagles B team in the crunch, said, “It was a good game, I didn’t expect it from our team because we trained only three days before the game,”
“It was a good game despite we lost the game, the team was good, I must commend the team.
“Like I said before, we have the team to go to Russia and make a statement. As a team we can make it, we have quality players to defend Nigeria and I believe with their mind put to it they will do it.
Nigeria’s World Cup-bound team will battle Democratic Republic of Congo next Monday in Port Harcourt before traveling to London to face England on June 2 in a pre-World Cup friendly game.
